Premarital counseling in Los Angeles

Premarital counseling with Dr. Shawntres Parks is six to eight sessions built around a structured assessment. It’s for engaged and committed couples who want to talk through money, family, sex and conflict before those things become patterns. Sessions are online anywhere in California, or in person in Westwood by request.

Why now

You’re good together. That’s the point.

Most couples come to premarital work because things are going well, not because they’re failing. You want to protect what you have. You also know that every couple brings two sets of instructions about love, and nobody compares notes until something breaks. This is where you compare notes.

Questions

Questions about premarital counseling

What happens in premarital counseling?

You each complete a structured assessment, then meet for six to eight 80-minute sessions. We cover money, family, sex, conflict, the household load and your future plans, and you leave with tools and a plan.

How many sessions is premarital counseling?

Six to eight sessions. Most couples finish in two to four months, and it’s best to start at least three months before the wedding.

Do we need to be engaged?

No. Premarital counseling is for any committed couple thinking about marriage or a long-term partnership, including couples who already live together.

Is it worth it if we’re not having problems?

Yes. That’s the best time to do it. You build a shared language for hard conversations while things are good, so you already have it when life gets full.
